I love fortune cookies. Generally, I don't eat them as I'm wheat intolerant, but I love to read the surprise sayings that can be found inside. That inspirational saying reminded me of someone who has always inspired me.
I have many, many people who have inspired me. Some are authors, singers, celebrities, ordinary people, etc.
When I opened this particular fortune cookie, I thought immediately of my ex-sister-in-law - Karen (with an "e"). Years ago, she was diagnosed with encephalitis when there was a terrible outbreak all over the United States. Karen, my sister-in-law and friend, always had an incredible sense of humor and cared for everyone. I saw her during the most difficult time period in her life. She literally never knew when she would "fall asleep." I remember going to the store with her one day and all of a sudden it hit her. She struggled to stay awake long enough to get out of there. The whole time she was struggling, she was joking about her condition. Never did I hear her complain. We've kept in touch all these many years and her sense of humor has never left her. She is an inspiration to everyone she meets. And, by the way, she lives a full and wonderful life with her loving family in the state of Washington.
From time to time, I hear someone say that I am an inspiration to them. If each of us tried to be a little more inspirational to our friends, family members, etc. wouldn't this be a better world?
