A
couple of weeks ago a woman from California called me to
talk about an interview I did with a radio program called
"In The Company Of Angels." We spoke
for about an hour.
Jerri
told me about her present situation, always including a
little laughter and humor. She said that humor is what keeps
her alive.
As
the time went on, I became very curious about her. She said
that she was a bit older, semi-blind due to a cataract surgery
that went wrong and because she spent most of her life as
a mother she never made enough money to receive Social Security.

was stunned when I heard that - how many mothers are in
this situation?)
She
lives by herself in a trailer house and the Angel show is
one of her favorite shows.
Then
the "buts" in her story began...she told me of
the amazing things that she had accomplished - being at
the right place at the right time.
At
the end of our conversation, she said that all she wants
to do is record her story so she can leave a legacy for
her children. She has no money to offer but a wealth of
stories to leave.
We,
as a society, are quite concerned about leaving property
or money for our children, but what about our Legacies?
Is there no value in what we've done? Do we think so little
of ourselves that we don't think a legacy is important?
I believe we ALL HAVE A LEGACY
to offer. NOW is the time to think of your journey and how
you would leave a Legacy. |
Intention
Exercise: Legacy
Please have a pad and pen close by so you
can record your thoughts or answers.
| It
is time to set the stage by putting on some soft music.
Take the phone off the hook, turn off your cell phone and
BE FULLY PRESENT for this exercise.
Write
down your legacy question and your intention, then close
your eyes.
Close
your eyes....relax, relax.....every part of your body....just
relax.
Let
go of any worries or concerns...this is your time...relax,
just relax.
You
can do this two ways: Interview yourself by using a mirror
reflection. You're the journalist and the reflection is
the person you are interviewing. -OR-
Call a friend to interview you. Make it fun as well as
serious.
MIRROR
INTERVIEW SAMPLE:
Pretend
that you are interviewing yourself. Look in the mirror
- no judgments - just look. Have your pad handy or a pretend
mike. Or, some of you may have a computer that may allow
you to record your "interview". Pretend you
are the journalist interviewing the person in the mirror.
Breathe
and ask the person in the mirror what their name is, where
and when they were born, some details about their lives
just like a "real journalist" would do. Keep
going with this interview. Be nosey and ask questions
that no one else would ever ask. Questions about their
hopes and dreams. About the synchronistic events in their
lives.
As
a journalist think: What about you would you
like to leave - what inspirational things have you done?
What achievements (no judgments on this) would you like
to leave. (Personal Note: I am making jewelry for the
first time in my life and I'm in my 50's. I NEVER thought
I would be doing this. What I've learned is that it is
very meditative. So my legacy would be to broadcast or
tell people that I found that thing that brought out the
passion in me, the calmness, the meditative state, the
beauty that no one else sees, the appreciation of working
with my hands. My overall legacy is not only the beauty
of what I make, but the passion that came out in me. This
means that no matter what age you are, you too can tap
into your passion.")
Keep
going with this. You may want to work on this once a week.
Journal as you're doing this. Create a scrapbook book
that is uniquely YOU.
Breathe
in slowly and breathe out slowly. Be with the answers
- feel the emotions. You did it! You unraveled the greatest
mystery in your life.
