July Mid-Month Intention-to-Share

"Your Confidence in Your Ability to Grow Influences Your ability to Grow" ~ Jon Kabat-Zin, Ph.D.

"Self-efficacy is a belief in your ability to exercise control over specific events in your life." (Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zin, Ph.D, Pg. 201)

According to Dr. Martin Seligman founder of Positive Psychology and author "Learned Optimism" (a book that made a difference in my life when I was going through a rough time in the 90's) says that pessimists are more likely to develop "physical symptoms and show hormonal and immune-system changes characteristic of increased susceptibility to disease following a bad event than are optimists."

There have been a many studies around the effects of attitude and health and they are finding that the optimist's way of responding to stressful events seems to have a "protective effect against depression, illness, and premature death."

Pessimists tend to blame themselves and everyone else for the things that are going wrong in their life. They tend to say "everything that can go wrong, will go wrong." Are you one of those people? Would you like to change that attitude and become more optimistic?

Optimistic people tend to have a healthier way of looking at life which in turn, they tend to be healthier. Much of it is accepting oneself and making appropriate changes that will keep them at the emotional level they choose to be.

After reading the book "Learned Optimism" during the most depressing time in my life, I knew I had to make changes in my attitude. My life wasn't working so something had to change. It was like turning on a light bulb. Have you been ever experienced this?

That doesn't mean that I don't get discouraged, but when I do, I deal with it by facing what is going on inside of me. My attitude these days is - "I'd rather not waste my valuable living time" on depressing situations. Therefore I choose to step away from them. I hope this makes sense to you.

Life is too short to be depressed, angry, frustrated, etc. Look around and see the good that is in your life. Everyday Practice Optimism. The more you practice, the easier it is. The good news is, you are rewiring your brain to a higher frequency. And as you do that, you can handle the mishaps easier and you'll experience fewer of them.

From this day forward, why don't you make your motto:

I am imagining... That I Am The Persistent Optimist!

Open Up to the Good Life Because I Deserve It!

Our Deepest Fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” by Marianne Williamson from A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles http://skdesigns.com/internet/articles/quotes/williamson/our_deepest_fear/
